Principal's message
Welcome to Bulli High School.
It is my privilege to lead a school with a proud tradition of academic excellence, creativity, student leadership and strong community values. Nestled between the Illawarra escarpment and the stunning Bulli coastline, our school offers a uniquely inspiring environment where students can learn, explore and thrive. We are incredibly fortunate to have the outdoors — particularly Bulli Beach and the culturally and environmentally significant Sandon Point — serve as an extension of our classroom. Sandon Point is a place of deep significance to the Dharawal people, who have cared for this land for tens of thousands of years. Our students benefit from learning in a setting rich with Indigenous heritage, where they can explore the environment, understand the stories and traditions of the Dharawal people, and develop a profound respect for Country.
“There is more bounty, more possibility … in a vista that moves, rolls, surges … The beach … is a veranda at the edge of the continent.” — Tim Winton
This beautifully captures the spirit of Bulli High. Our school, perched between escarpment and sea, draws on that same sense of wonder — our classrooms reach beyond walls, our learning flows with the tides, and our students are grounded in the ever-changing beauty and power of our coastal home.
At Bulli High, we believe that every young person is capable of achieving remarkable things when they feel valued, supported and challenged. Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to create engaging, future-focused learning environments that encourage students to think deeply, act responsibly and strive for their personal best. Our location allows us to offer unique learning experiences, including Marine Studies and outdoor environmental programs that embrace our natural surroundings.
We are proud of our inclusive learning environment, which ensures that all students can access meaningful and personalised education. Central to this is the Black Diamond Learning Centre, which provides specialist classes and support for neurodiverse students, including those on the Autism spectrum. Through differentiated teaching, targeted support programs and a focus on building social, emotional and academic skills, our inclusive programs foster a sense of belonging and empowerment, allowing every student to thrive and achieve their potential.
A key part of our approach are the Bulli Five skills — our whole-school framework designed to strengthen the capabilities students need for success at school and beyond. These skills promote confident communication, creative and critical thinking, collaboration and responsible citizenship. They are embedded across learning programs and help our students become adaptable, capable and future-ready young people.
We are proud to offer a wide range of academic opportunities to extend and challenge learners. Our HPGE (High Potential and Gifted Education) programs support high-potential students through enrichment classes and personalised learning pathways including vocational education and training. Senior students also benefit from access to formalised mentoring and HSC Extension classes, allowing them to deepen their expertise and pursue advanced study across a range of subjects.
Our state-of-the-art facilities and resources support hands-on, innovative learning, including 3D printers, a combat robotics program, and a fully equipped STEM laboratory, giving students the opportunity to design, create, and problem-solve in real-world contexts. These facilities enable students to explore emerging technologies, develop critical thinking skills, and engage in project-based learning that prepares them for the challenges of the future.
Student achievement is celebrated across all areas of school life. Our consistently strong HSC results reflect the commitment of our students and staff. For 35 consecutive years, our talented Visual Arts students have been selected for ARTEXPRESS, the prestigious annual exhibition of outstanding HSC artworks from across New South Wales. In addition, many of our students are nominated for a wide range of state-wide HSC awards, recognising excellence in academic, creative and leadership achievements across all subjects.
Our rich extracurricular program provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, confidence and personal growth beyond the classroom. This includes our Elite Surf Program, which combines high-level surfing development with academic focus and wellbeing, as well as a highly successful debating program, offering students the chance to refine their public speaking and critical thinking skills. Students also have opportunities to shine in music and performance programs, fostering collaboration and stage confidence. We are equally proud to support students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which nurtures resilience, leadership, teamwork and a strong sense of service and adventure. Sporting excellence is celebrated across all levels, with students achieving success in a wide range of team and individual sports, reflecting the dedication, teamwork and spirit of our school community.
We value strong partnerships with our wider educational and Aboriginal communities. Bulli High maintains an ongoing relationship with the Northern Illawarra Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), supporting culturally responsive learning and ensuring our students develop respect and understanding for Indigenous heritage. Our collaborations with the University of Wollongong provide access to enrichment programs, STEM initiatives, mentorship opportunities and pathways to tertiary study, giving students the chance to extend their learning and broaden their horizons.
We are also proud of the achievements of our alumni. Bulli High School has nurtured generations of students who have gone on to make significant contributions in their chosen fields, whether in academics, the arts, sport, business, or community service. Their success serves as an inspiration to our current students and a reminder of the enduring impact of a Bulli High education.
We are deeply connected to our Seacliff Community of Schools, encompassing, Austinmer, Bulli, Coledale, Stanwell Park, Otford, Scarborough, Thirroul, and Waniora Public Schools. These partnerships ensure a strong, supportive transition for students moving from primary to high school and foster shared learning, leadership and enrichment opportunities across our local network. This collaboration strengthens the sense of belonging and continuity that underpins student success from Kindergarten through to Year 12.
Our ASPIRE merit and recognition system is central to cultivating a positive, inclusive school culture. Through ASPIRE, we acknowledge students who demonstrate our core values of respect, responsibility and integrity, show consistent effort, contribute positively to our community and strive for excellence. This program ensures that student growth, character and commitment are celebrated just as much as academic achievement.
As we look ahead, we are excited to be preparing for Bulli High School’s 70th anniversary in 2026 — a milestone that will honour our rich history, celebrate our achievements and strengthen our connection with generations of students, families and staff who have shaped our school.
Our school community is built on respect, positivity and meaningful partnerships with families. We know that students thrive when schools and parents work together, and we warmly welcome community involvement in all aspects of school life.
As you explore our website, I hope it offers a clear picture of the vibrant, inclusive and forward-thinking community we are. Bulli High School is a place where young people are supported to grow as learners, as leaders and as individuals, and I am proud of the achievements of every student who walks through our doors.
Thank you for visiting, and I look forward to working with you to support the success and wellbeing of all our students.
