Marine Studies
Teachers: Ms Alessia Contarin, Mr Ben Deans , Ms Jodie Hirst, Mr Zac McKenzie and Mr Kane Van Elsland – qualified and certified teachers of Marine Studies
The study of Marine and Aquaculture Technology provides an opportunity for the future custodians of this environment to study it and to appreciate its value. It gives them the opportunity to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to use and protect its unique ecosystems, and at the same time communicate their appreciation to the community.
There is a heavy focus on the practical component of the course, with much of our time spent in or near the water.
Each term there is a new practical theme including:
- Swimming
- Fishing
- Cooking Seafood
- Snorkelling
- Rock Platforms
- Boating
- Surfing
Students will also get the opportunity to go on many excursions such as Sydney Aquarium, Sydney Fish Markets, Snorkelling at Bushrangers Bay and the opportunity to obtain their Boat License.
The Classroom
The theory component compliments the practical side so students learn the safe, ethical and responsible ways to use the marine environment and its resources.
