A Community of Learners | A World of Opportunities

In English, students explore the study and use of the English language in its many textual forms. This includes spoken, written and visual texts through which meaning is shaped, conveyed, interpreted and reflected. As students’ progress through their schooling, the complexity of these texts and skills increases.

Developing proficiency in English supports students in becoming confident communicators, critical and imaginative thinkers, and lifelong learners. It empowers them to participate as informed and active members of Australian society. Strong knowledge and skills in English contribute to students’ intellectual, social and emotional development, helping them thrive within a community of learners.

The study of English also nurtures a love of literature and learning. It offers rich, engaging and challenging experiences that encourage students to experiment with ideas and expression. Through these opportunities, students learn to work independently and collaboratively, to think deeply, and to reflect on their growth—opening a world of opportunities for their future learning and lives.
