Black Diamond Learning Centre (BDLC) Support Unit
A Community of Learners, A World of Opportunities
At Bulli High School, we celebrate diversity and are committed to providing a supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. Our Black Diamond Learning Centre (BDLC) offers specialised teaching and learning programs for students on the autism spectrum, ensuring that each child is given the tools and guidance to reach their personal and academic potential.
The BDLC provides a nurturing and structured environment where students are encouraged to develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Placement in the centre is made through a referral process coordinated by the Learning Support Team at the student’s home school, with final decisions determined by a regional placement panel. Once accepted, students benefit from a highly collaborative approach: BDLC staff maintain regular communication with each child’s support network, ensuring that learning and wellbeing goals are aligned and consistently monitored.
Each student has an Individualised Learning Plan (ILP), created collaboratively by parents and staff, which reflects the student’s unique strengths, challenges, and learning style. Students follow the standard curriculum while receiving tailored support and opportunities to develop practical life skills where appropriate.
In the senior years, students and their families work closely with the Support Teacher Transition to develop a personalised post-school pathway. This plan is designed to meet the specific needs and aspirations of each student, whether it involves further education, vocational training, or employment, ensuring a smooth and successful transition into life beyond school.
At Bulli High School, the Black Diamond Learning Centre exemplifies our commitment to building a community of learners where every student has a world of opportunities to grow, succeed, and thrive.
