BHS Surf Academy

The Bulli High School Surf Academy is a program for talented surfers, formalised in 2024, that offers specialized coaching, lifestyle education, and career guidance. The academy provides a holistic approach to surfing, including training in competitive surfing, as well as education on surfing's cultural significance, art, and business aspects. Students have opportunities for travel, media projects like a surf magazine and documentary, and access to world-class coaches.

Program details

  • Formalised program: The academy was formally established in 2024 to formalise the school's surfing program, attract talent, and keep talented students at the school.
  • Holistic education: The program goes beyond just surfing skills, including lessons on the cultural significance of surfing, such as the Dharawal people's connection to Sandon Point. It also includes education on lifestyle habits and career pathways within the surf industry.
  • World-class coaching: The academy has attracted high-level coaching, including former professional surfers like Pam Burridge and Nic Squiers.
  • Career and future planning: The academy helps students plan for their future in the surf industry and provides support, including tutoring, to ensure they don't fall behind academically while pursuing their surfing goals.
  • Student opportunities: The program provides opportunities for students to travel to surf events and competitions.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

For 35 consecutive years, our talented Visual Arts students have been selected for ARTEXPRESS, the prestigious annual exhibition of outstanding HSC artworks from across New South Wales. In addition, many of our students are nominated for a wide range of state-wide HSC awards, recognising excellence in academic, creative and leadership achievements across all subjects.

Interschools Snowsports  Events

The Interschools Snowsports Championships is a series of exciting competitions where school students compete for their schools, either as part of a team or as an individuals, across nine snowsport disciplines.

Interschools has nine disciplines on offering including Alpine, Ski Cross, Moguls, Snowboard GS, Snowboard Cross, Cross-Country Classic and Cross-Country Relay. For our secondary students, we also include Ski Slopestyle and Snowboard Slopestyle.

Interschools Mountain Biking Events

The Australian MTB Interschools will feature 4 events catering for all disciplines of mountain biking. The line up of events includes:

  • Flow
  • All-Mountain
  • Downhill
  • Pump Track

Basketball

South Coast & NSW CHS State Champions

Join our Bulli-BALLERS and Coach Delay.

  • Before school training sessions.

  • We provide trainng opportunites to suit the needs & interest levels of all students including;

    • Tuesday & Thursday morning Early Morning Basketball training sessions from 7.00-8.30am
    • Thursday Break 1 & 2 School Squad Sessions (sessions vary from walk throughs, to video sessions, to meetings)
    • Monday 4.00-6.00pm Open Training
    • Specialised individual & small group performance feedback & training programs to suit the needs & goals of student athletes seeking higher representative opportunities
  • Our school competes in competitions year round, including;

    • Zone, regional & state wide knockout competitions in the 15s & Opens age groups
    • The annual Coenraad Cup (for Year 7 & 8 students)
    • The Sharks Shield
    • BNSW State Championships
    • The Sydney Schools Shootout (2 day invitational tournament for Division 1, Division 2 & Junior teams)
    • The Australian Schools National Championships (U15s, U17s & U20s)

    Our students are also provided with the opportunity to;

    • Play for 'North Basketball' in the local domestic competiton (U14s, U16s, U18s & Open Age in Divisions 1, 2 or 3)
    • For elite senior students, play in the domestic Super League competition at Sutherland on Tuesday evenings
    • Opportunity to play in a second domestic competition per week (playing up an age group (where appropriate))

    Attend weekly scrimmage training with on Monday evenings between 4 & 6pm
