Our extra-curricular highlights
BHS Surf Academy
The Bulli High School Surf Academy is a program for talented surfers, formalised in 2024, that offers specialized coaching, lifestyle education, and career guidance. The academy provides a holistic approach to surfing, including training in competitive surfing, as well as education on surfing's cultural significance, art, and business aspects. Students have opportunities for travel, media projects like a surf magazine and documentary, and access to world-class coaches.
Program details
- Formalised program: The academy was formally established in 2024 to formalise the school's surfing program, attract talent, and keep talented students at the school.
- Holistic education: The program goes beyond just surfing skills, including lessons on the cultural significance of surfing, such as the Dharawal people's connection to Sandon Point. It also includes education on lifestyle habits and career pathways within the surf industry.
- World-class coaching: The academy has attracted high-level coaching, including former professional surfers like Pam Burridge and Nic Squiers.
- Media and projects: Students are involved in media projects, such as producing a surf magazine called Barrells and working on a documentary about the academy.
- Career and future planning: The academy helps students plan for their future in the surf industry and provides support, including tutoring, to ensure they don't fall behind academically while pursuing their surfing goals.
- Student opportunities: The program provides opportunities for students to travel to surf events and competitions.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Trips and excursions
